Volume 4 (Build)

Shaping the future

Our Build issue is all about the way things are constructed. Honouring shape and form, art and architecture, our pages come alive with exciting spaces and the people who inhabit and create in them.

‘Build’ represents the way that all things are constructed – places, products, communities and even collaborations. Between envisioning something and bringing it to life there is building it.

Focusing on structures, architecture, facades and lines, we also zoom in on the personality injected into these spaces through their owners’ personal style, art and decor.

The all-local line-up of homes includes a regal residence in the heart of the Mother City, a hidden homestead in Joburg’s Parktown North, a jungle dwelling in tropical Durban, and a modern ‘lighthouse’ in Mossel Bay.

In addition, we hero the pieces that form a part of the whole – from design and decor to lighting and tiles, flooring and finishes. We spotlight bold colours, interesting patterns and pioneering prints.

We travel the continent and further afield to find some of the most beautiful pink buildings around the world, chat to award-winning chef, Luke Dale-Roberts, about his move to Joburg and share ideas for a house party with a difference.

Including art and architecture, cityscapes and urban legends, our selection of books has one thread that links them all: an appreciation for great design. We also go back in time to feature some of the most extraordinary homes from House and Leisure’s 29-year archive and celebrate a sense of community in our DIGEST chapter.

‘Build’ reimagines the way that we can shape the future, both individually and as a collective.
