nuuma: A kitchen to linger in
At Decorex Johannesburg 2026, nuuma explored a quieter kind of luxury: a kitchen as inviting as the spaces around it
Some of the most memorable moments at home happen between the planned ones: a conversation that continues after dinner, coffee taken slowly, the easy company of someone preparing a meal. For nuuma, these everyday rituals are central to the design of a refined modern kitchen.
Its Best Overall Stand-winning installation at Decorex Johannesburg 2026 gave that thinking a spatial expression. The South African brand’s N30 collection sat within a complete interior, with furniture, light and architectural openings considered alongside the kitchen. It suggested a home to inhabit, rather than a room reserved for preparing food.
Seeing the kitchen alongside furniture changed how the installation could be read. The cabinetry was no longer considered only from directly in front of it, but as part of the view from elsewhere in the room. Its proportions, colours and surfaces belonged to that wider setting.
It was a reminder that a kitchen’s character is also experienced when nobody is cooking.
N30 brought warmth to that relationship. Its earthy tones, warm materials and refined detailing offered sophistication without formality. Textile weave glass contributed an almost furnishing-like quality to the cabinetry, connecting the kitchen’s precise detailing with the softer character of the surrounding interior.
The custom fabric light overhead carried this softness into the room, filtering a warm glow through its layers. Yet no single detail told the whole story. The atmosphere emerged from a succession of considered decisions: what to emphasise, where to introduce texture and where to leave space.
That is the kitchen culture nuuma proposes. Function remains essential, but so does the pleasure of being there. Storage, preparation and movement are resolved in support of the people using the space, while the kitchen remains visually connected to the home around it.
At the nuuma showroom in Bryanston, Johannesburg, visitors can experience this relationship in fully realised kitchen environments and explore N10, N30, N50 and N90 – four individual expressions of refined modern living.
