Located in the serene landscape of Stellenbosch, Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate is a place where rich heritage seamlessly blends with modern innovation. Founded in 1696, it is one of South Africa’s oldest working farms. The estate was revitalised in 2015 under the ownership of German historian Prof Dr Dr Peter Löw, a transformation that elevated it to a sought-after destination, known for its commitment to heritage, sustainability, and excellence.
The property’s heritage is a cornerstone of its identity, reflected in its status as a national monument and its inclusion in the European Heritage Project. While honoring its rich history, the estate embraces modern viticulture, utilising cutting-edge techniques that respect the land’s traditions.
This balance between past and future is evident in every bottle of wine produced, each of which is crafted to reflect the unique terroir of the region. Vergenoegd Löw is also a WWF Conservation Champion, with a strong focus on sustainability. Its unique mixed-farming approach, incorporating Dexter cattle and Indian runner ducks, helps maintain soil health and biodiversity while minimising the use of pesticides. This harmonious farming model aligns with its commitment to producing high-quality wines while maintaining
environmental balance.
A large part of the estate’s success is its focus on people. Under MD Corius Visser and winemaker Vusi Dalicuba, the team fosters a culture of growth and development. Their commitment to excellence in winemaking is evident in their award-winning wines and the growth of their staff, including George Young, named South Africa’s best young sommelier by the South African Sommeliers Association in 2024.
The accommodation on the estate goes beyond luxury and creature comforts. It’s a complete sensory experience. Feed your soul with panoramic views, the smell of the ocean, fynbos and birdsong. Surrounded by nature, you are invited to embrace the atmosphere and to take it in with abandon, as your senses were designed to do. Your physical surroundings will satisfy your body’s craving for comfort, cool, warmth and soothing visuals, all set in a peaceful retreat.
With its blend of heritage, sustainability, and exceptional wine, the estate is a must-visit for wine lovers and those seeking a peaceful escape in South Africa’s beautiful wine country.
